Westbahnhof (West Train Station) is one of the most important train stations in Vienna. It is the point of arrival and departure for trains between Vienna and several big Austrian and European cities, like Salzburg, Munich, Frankfurt, or Zürich. It is also a popular hotel site – many visitors to Vienna choose Westbahnhof hotels for their location and excellent public transport connections.
Erdberg Station, located on the opposite site of Vienna across the Inner City from Westbahnhof, is Vienna’s main long-distance bus terminal. As a good and competitively priced alternative to trains, buses also connect Vienna with many European capitals and tourist targets, like Prague or Budapest. Unlike Westbahnhof, Erdberg is not a typical hotel location, though you will find a few hotels near Erdberg too.
Although Wien Westbahnhof Station and Erdberg Bus Station are quite far from one another, getting from Westbahnhof to Erdberg is extremely simple and quick. There is a direct metro connection between the two stations.
The metro (or U-Bahn as locals say) station at Westbahnhof is the intersection of two lines, U3 and U6. Take line U3 (orange colour) in direction to Simmering. You will pass several stations in the Inner City (including Volkstheater or Stephansplatz) and eventually you get to station named Erdberg. As you have probably guessed, it is where you must get off (it is 11 stops in total from Westbahnhof to Erdberg and the ride should take 15-20 minutes). Across the street from the metro station you will immediately see the bus station.
