For this year’s information, see Rathaus Film Festival 2012.
Rathaus Film Festival 2010 takes place between 3rd July and 12th September 2010.
Detailed program: July 2010, August 2010, September 2010
Vienna’s Rathausplatz, the area in front of the City Hall (Rathaus), again hosts the traditional Rathaus Film Festival in summer 2010. This year Rathaus Film Festival celebrates its 20th season.
Rathaus Film Festival is one of the most popular events taking place in Vienna annually. According to estimates, about 700,000 visitors have attended the festival in each of the last years.
The cultural program ranges across various genres including opera, classical music, theatre, ballet, and modern music. You can watch all performances on a giant screen installed on the front wall of the Rathaus.
Like many other cultural events in Vienna in 2010/2011, Rathaus Film Festival commemorates Gustav Mahler, the great Viennese composer and past director of Vienna State Opera (2010 is the 150th anniversary of Mahler’s birth, while 2011 is the 100th anniversary of his death).
Every summer the film festival at Rathausplatz is accompanied by many stands with exotic food and open air restaurants in front of the Rathaus building. The exotic food stands are open approximately from 11 am every day.
3rd to 11th July and 19th July to 12th September 2010
The film always begins as it gets dark. Exact times will vary (the films will start earlier towards the end of summer, as it gets dark earlier).
