This year’s theme for the Vienna City Marathon is 2,500 years of the Marathon myth to commemorate the 2,500-year anniversary of the Battle of Marathon and the legendary run of the Greek soldier Pheidippides. How concretely it will project on this year’s marathon in Vienna is a secret – the organizers only gave a short teaser on their website:
We will honor this momentous run and its spirit in an exciting way, memorable for every runner taking part in the event on 18th April 2010.
During the two days before the race itself (Friday 16 April and Saturday 17 April) you can visit the marathon expo called Wien Aktiv, which is the biggest running related fair in Austria every year, offering a wide selection of running shoes, clothes, and accessories, and other services like a medical centre. It is also the place where to collect your number for the race. Opening hours are 10:00 to 18:00 on both days. The Expo is closed on the race day.
Wien Aktiv Marathon Expo is located at Wiener Messe (Vienna International Fair) in Hall D. The entrance is from Trabrennstrasse and the best way to get there is by the metro line U2, station Krieau (2 stops from Praterstern).
According to the official information, the entry fees for the main race of Vienna City Marathon 2010 are:
In some cases the handling fee of EUR 5 may also apply. For more details, visit the official website of Vienna City Marathon.
