Bahnhof Wien Praterstern is one of the biggest train stations in Vienna. It is located next to the well-known amusement park Prater in the northern part of Vienna city centre (it is also known as Wien Nord – Vienna North Train Station). Wien Praterstern train station building is situated in the middle of Praterstern roundabout, which is a big junction of several important streets: Lassallestrasse (to UNO City), Ausstellungsstrasse (to Messe Wien), Franzensbrückenstrasse (to Landstrasse district), Praterstrasse (to the historical centre of Vienna), and Nordbahnstrasse (along the railroad tracks to the north).
Praterstern is a busy public transport hub, served by long distance as well as regional trains. It is part of the S-Bahn Stammstrecke (the core section of Vienna urban trains). Praterstern is also a metro (U-Bahn) station – the interchange of lines U1 and U2. Several tram and bus lines stop in front of Praterstern Train Station building.
There are several good hotels near Praterstern and even more accommodation facilities in the nearby parts of Vienna, especially in the streets among Praterstern, Taborstrasse, and Donaukanal. Hotels close to Praterstern Station have mostly 3 or 4 stars, but you will also find a few budget hotels.
The primary tourist and hotel district in Vienna is the Inner City (Innere Stadt). Praterstern Railway Station is well connected to Vienna Inner City by U-Bahn lines U1 and U2.
It is 2 metro stops on U2 from Praterstern to Schottenring, the beginning of Ringstrasse. Schottenring and the subsequent stations on U2 (Schottentor, Rathaus, Volkstheater, and MuseumsQuartier) are all very popular hotel locations with many hotels and tourist attractions in close proximity.
On U-Bahn line U1, the stations in the Inner City are Schwedenplatz (2 stops from Praterstern), Stephansplatz (3 stops), and Karlsplatz (4 stops). Here you can see the overview of best hotel locations in the Inner City.
