Vienna Airport Lines operate two bus lines from Schwechat Airport to the centre. The buses leave in 30 minute intervals (sometimes in peak periods every 20 minutes). This bus service is not integrated with the public transport system, therefore unlike the S-Bahn the passes are not valid here. One way costs EUR 6 (both bus lines have the same price), return ticket costs EUR 11. Passengers buy the tickets from the bus driver.
One bus line goes to Schwedenplatz, a major intersection of metro (U1 and U4), trams, and buses (the stop itself is called Morzinplatz). It takes you from the airport close to Stephansdom (St. Stephan Cathedral) in about 20 minutes.
The second bus line goes to Südbahnhof (Southern Railway Station) and Westbahnhof (Western Railway Station). Travel time is slightly longer, about 30 minutes.
The taxi stand is located right in front of the Arrivals Hall. Travel time to the centre is usually between 20 and 30 minutes, depending on the traffic situation. A taxi ride from the airport to a place in the centre should cost about EUR 25 to EUR 50 (including tip). Taxi prices are to be negotiated before you get in. Sometimes a pre-booked taxi can be much cheaper. For example, there is a company called Airportservice Wien that charges EUR 27 (up to 3 people) or EUR 30 (up to 4 people).
Depending on the hotel you stay in, you might have the option of shuttle service. The price is usually lower than for a taxi. The downside is that there might be more people sharing the car.
If you want to rent a car, you can find car rental counters in the western part of the Arrivals Hall.
