Georges Prêtre conducting Neujahrskonzert for the second time

For the second time (after 2008) the prestigious job of conducting Vienna Philharmonic orchestra at the Neujahrskonzert was awarded to Georges Prêtre, the charismatic French conductor born in 1924 (aged 85 at the time of this concert).

Prêtre debuted at Opera de Marseille in 1946 and during his long career he has conducted some of the world’s finest orchestras and musicians at some of the world’s most famous venues in cities including Paris, Milan, Vienna, New York, and Chicago. So far Georges Prêtre has been the only French conductor who has conducted the New Year Concert in Vienna.
